  • Welcome to my world!

YUP! I'm a mom and I'm totin' my camera and I'm PROUD of it!! After years of creating and learning and recreating and getting ahead of technology so I could create, learn and create some more, I found myself ready to branch out into a business where I could share my creativity with others. Just consider me obsessed...a passionate creative who is completely obsessed with the notion that beauty is alive and I have only to peek through my lens to see it...everywhere and in everyone!!
I hope to see you here often as I do my best to post new content weekly or more!! You won't want to miss the new categories I have planned such as photography tips for hip moms (you're a hip mom whether you know it or not!) and local small business features. Lots of new plans are in the mix and you won't want to miss a single post!
Be sure to like me on facebook for even more fun updates and photos and a (soon to come) behind the scenes look at what I do...or don't

Love will warm you

Okay!  I know…it’s safe to say that I pretty much NEVER blog anymore, so why the sudden flurry of finger to keyboard?!  It’s simple.  It’s a sunny day, the moons are aligned and…wait for it…I flat out miss it!  It started out innocently enough.  I sat down to clean up my desktop and get caught up on some drudgery office work, you know, the not creative kind…when there it was.  The squirrel.  Somehow, a duplicate client slideshow had been left on my desktop.  Of course, I stopped to watched it…beginning to end…the whole thing…!  And then it hit me.  The burning desire to create.  Today, I choose to satisfy that craving.  Cobwebs are thick here on my cyper paper and my fingers are stiff from lack of practice, but it feels good to find myself back home, no matter the time away.  Maybe the next post won’t come along for another 2 years…maybe 2 days!  I live on the edge, people, and no two days are ever the same around here.  Another time, I’ll take a moment to catch my written life up to what has been lived.  Suffice it to say, it’s been full and it’s been blessed.  On that note, here is the nugget I found today from (deep breath) 2 years ago.  Yes…although silent, my camera and I continue to carry the torch!  A sweet couple looking to capture a bit of a fairy tale scene tucked romantically away in a remote rurual setting for their one year anniversary.  I don’t mind if I do…!  Meet Luke and Adrianna…on a truly cold day, braved for the sake of the camera, with only their love to warm them…

Don’t forget to check out their slideshow here!

taking it back and slowing it down

Okay, so I’m acutely aware of the fact that it has been MONTHS since I’ve posted anything.  As I hang my head in shame, I refuse to throw out any lame excuses about how busy I’ve been with running my kids to this and that which includes, but is not limited to, an ambulance ride to the children’s hospital after a 30ft fall from a tree, a doctor’s visit from a tick bite gone bad and meetings with clients all squished in between the laundry, dishes, cooking, cleaning and school parties/homework/concerts and any various functions that I’ve run out of breath to mention!!  No, I won’t even bother to go down that road…BUT…rest assured that while I was silent on the public side, a LOT has been going on on the private side!    I’ll save all the mushy stuff for a later post but to sum it all up, I’ve been discovering what want for and from myself as a photographer and artist.

This post speaks for itself…it was time for me to “take it back and slow it down”…to focus on what inspires me and revive the excitement that starts in the heart and spreads like a flower to the sun.

Your daughter has the BEST serious face EVER! Gorgeousness! And is this your crazy awesome new location you were mentioning on FB? I am INSANELY jealous!!! It is awesome! How did you come across a find like that???

These are adorable. I think my favorite is her standing holding onto the corner of the building, barefoot, with her nightgown glowing. It’s beautiful.

Where did the summer go?

Summer always ends MUCH too quickly for me although I did find myself, for most likely the first time in my life, actually looking forward to cooler weather.  Let’s face it.  It was a LONG! HOT! summer…even for the most sun-loving of us!!  That being said, it was actually a most perfect summer to spend every single day in the pool which is exactly what we did!!  As a mother of 4, I set out to look for a sport that all of the kids could be a part of so that I didn’t run myself ragged trying to get them to 4 different places at the same time.  Well, let’s just say that the swim team was a no brainer, or more specifically, Cleveland Aqua Tigers swim team was a no brainer!!  All 4 of the kids LOVE the water and LOVE to swim AND, it’s the PERFECT family sport!!!!  We won’t talk about the insanely early mornings or the inflated grocery bill because it was a small, teensy weensy price to pay for the great summer we exchanged it for.  I could never say enough good things about our coach(es).  While Coach Frazier pushed and prodded those sleepy little swimmers, it was always with encouragement and BELIEF in every single child at every single level.  How many coaches can you say THAT about?!  Well, just consider this family in deep, both feet first…hook, line and sinker!  We LOVE swim team!!  Just to prove how incredibly awesome it is, I even put together a slideshow of the whole summer…I think you’re gonna enjoy it and MAYBE even be a little jealous that you missed out.  Never fear, however…there’s always next summer!!!

(for the highest quality, change the slideshow to 720p at the bottom right of the window)

All about your own back to school session…

To say that I’m really excited about this season’s special Back to School sessions would be a gross understatement!!  I’ve been wanting to do something like this for quite some time, but had decided long ago that I would postpone any big personal projects until all my babies were big enough to be in school…which just so happens to be this year.  I’ve been through the shock of having a quiet house and cried all my tears and faced the reality that my little ones aren’t quite so little anymore and am now ready face the world again!!  So let me explain how this works…

Each session will be styled with various Back to School props that have been collected with this theme in mind, BUT, rest assured that while props remain the same, children do not, bringing with each of them their own flare and personality to the shoot!  To help keep cost down and to aid parents on the dreaded “what to wear” quest, the studio is providing clothing options for their clients (both boys and girls) for ages 4-12 years.  We understand that not all children grow at the same rate, so we will be prepared to discuss the sizes that are available at the studio and other options that are available.  Keep in mind that you are not required to use studio clothing, although we do recommend an outfit of a very simple, timeless feel to compliment the styled session properly.  We will be more than happy to discuss any ideas of your own that you may have for your own child(ren).

So here’s the next big question…what is this really going to cost??  Frakes Photography has decided to do something completely unprecedented and waive all sitting fees and provide an additional $30 discount with the purchase of any package which starts as low as $130.  After their session, each client will be given a complete price list to take home and look over.  While packages are encouraged due to the added savings for the client, a-la-cart is also provided.  There is absolutely no obligation to buy nor pressure to purchase at a specific level, however, most clients do spend anywhere from $500 and up.  Depending on the number of siblings, each session should be expected to last anywhere from one to two hours with breaks and snacks provided as needed.  (There will be no extra charge for 2(+) siblings, however the number of images shown in the gallery will remain the same.)  Warning:  your child will most likely have all the FUN!!  Approximately 2 weeks after the session, we will schedule a time to view your gallery of 20-30 of the best images taken.  Warning:  at this point, YOU will most likely have all the FUN!  😉   We do our best here at the studio to be sure to provide you with the best customer service possible every step of the way and to assure you of high quality images that will last for generations to come.  Every image is treated as a work of art and enhanced as such.  I work my very hardest to provide beautiful art for my clients’ homes.  My clients’ time and investment is valued, as is my time investment and the business I own.

If you have any questions I may not have answered, please feel free to call me at (423) 591-2100.  Remember, these sessions are only being scheduled through October 27th and there are only a certain number of sessions available so don’t delay!!  I’m excited about the opportunity to meet lots of new families and as always, create beautiful images for them…I just hope that it includes you!!

Back to school and growing too fast

I’m finding myself completely torn here.  After dedicating half the morning to writing up a great blog about all the blunders, mishaps and giggles that found their way into our lives on the day of this shoot, the entire post just completely disappeared.  GONE.  I can’t even find a speck of a trace of a single letter proving that I did any work on here at all…AND I had saved my draft twice.  UGH  SO, what to do.  I could go back and attempt to say it all again, but the second time around is never as good as the first because the heart has gone from it.  I’m also a firm believer that everything happens for a reason…which pushes me out to a shaky limb of saying absolutely nothing about it at all (I have this driving urge as a mother to describe everything I do which drives my kids absolutely insane) and letting the pictures just speak for themselves.  So, here we go.  Suffice it to say that it was a day to mark the beginning of a new year of memories and new year of milestones…but here I am explaining things again, lol!  Let’s just get to the pictures!!
