  • Welcome to my world!

YUP! I'm a mom and I'm totin' my camera and I'm PROUD of it!! After years of creating and learning and recreating and getting ahead of technology so I could create, learn and create some more, I found myself ready to branch out into a business where I could share my creativity with others. Just consider me obsessed...a passionate creative who is completely obsessed with the notion that beauty is alive and I have only to peek through my lens to see it...everywhere and in everyone!!
I hope to see you here often as I do my best to post new content weekly or more!! You won't want to miss the new categories I have planned such as photography tips for hip moms (you're a hip mom whether you know it or not!) and local small business features. Lots of new plans are in the mix and you won't want to miss a single post!
Be sure to like me on facebook for even more fun updates and photos and a (soon to come) behind the scenes look at what I do...or don't

Too Long!

I can’t believe how long I have allowed myself to be too busy to update my blog!  Although it has been awhile since I was last here, I am excited to announce that Frakes Photography is getting a new look!  I have been feverishly working on a new logo and a new website and eventually a fresh new blog to match, so I assure you that my time has been well spent!  I hope to have the new site up in about 2 weeks, so be sure to check back regularly to see all the new and exciting changes!

I will also be announcing all the details for my Spring Tea Party Themed Campaign that all you mothers won’t want to miss out on!!

In the meantime, I will post here regularly and keep you updated on the progress!  Here are a couple of fun photos from our recent trip to Gatlinburg for spring break.  Can you believe we were there during a santa convention to which santas from all over the world attend?!!  We were able to get in on the Santa Parade on St. Patricks Day which thrilled and utterly confused the little ones, hahaha!  Timing is everything with kids and a camera…and santas too!

Project 365

Maybe you’ve heard of it, and maybe you haven’t, but for you curious folk like myself, it’s a picture a day for an entire year!  I was encouraged by a fellow colleague ( to start this project last summer, but I just couldn’t bring myself to start something in the middle of the year, hahaha!  Well, since we just started a new year, I had absolutely no excuses anymore!  I have to say that I’m so glad I did join in on this fun project, and would encourage you to do it as well!  It’s a great stretch to the imagination and a wonderful way to record happenings that you may have let slip by otherwise.  I’m off to a good start, but I’m behind on posting so one of these days I’ll have to get caught up!  Here’s a few that I’ve posted on my facebook page that I thought I’d share with all my friends here too!

Wild Beauty

I was talking with my mother over the holidays about various wild things I’ve had the opportunity to photograph throughout the year and it hit me that I should put them all together and share them here.  Bare in mind that I do my absolute best to avoid the bears and lions, so if you’re hoping for some shockingly awesome material here, you won’t find it, lol!  I am, however quite proud of what I’ve got.  I seem to be missing one photo that I am quite proud of so I’ll have to add that one a bit later.  In the meantime, here are a few that I hope you enjoy…all of these being out around our house at just the right time!

I was amazed at what I was able to catch, but I can name several times when I kicked myself for not having the camera at the right time too.  I’m eager to see what God sends my way to catch next year; He never ceases to amaze me with the beauty He has created!

Awesome, Laura…You did a great job!

Stepping Back in Time

What a joy it was to do this photo shoot!  Our dear babysitter is now a senior (much to our dismay) so she asked me to do her sr. pictures on what turned out to be one of the last beautiful days of fall.  We started out by having some fun at the big barn, then moved the party to town.  We roamed around together with her mother and just had a blast!  She was such a good sport when we uprooted the homeless off the bench so she could lay down for one of these cute shots.  Poor thing had them staring just a couple feet away from her!  It was a little discombobulating at the time, but it’s a great laugh now!

I can’t even begin to describe my delight when she later emerged from the courthouse with her beautiful dress on!  I knew we were going to be stepping back in time, but didn’t realize it was going to be done with such grace!!  While we walked, her mother explained how “simple” it was to make, lol!  Thank you, Hannah, for your beauty, inside and out; I had a wonderful time with you and your mother!

You have been such a dear to us and our children.  While we hate to lose you as our babysitter, we pray all of God’s blessings and guidance as you cross into adulthood!
