  • Welcome to my world!

YUP! I'm a mom and I'm totin' my camera and I'm PROUD of it!! After years of creating and learning and recreating and getting ahead of technology so I could create, learn and create some more, I found myself ready to branch out into a business where I could share my creativity with others. Just consider me obsessed...a passionate creative who is completely obsessed with the notion that beauty is alive and I have only to peek through my lens to see it...everywhere and in everyone!!
I hope to see you here often as I do my best to post new content weekly or more!! You won't want to miss the new categories I have planned such as photography tips for hip moms (you're a hip mom whether you know it or not!) and local small business features. Lots of new plans are in the mix and you won't want to miss a single post!
Be sure to like me on facebook for even more fun updates and photos and a (soon to come) behind the scenes look at what I do...or don't

It takes TWO!

Somehow, all the teenie weenie little bundled up, cuddled up babies of this world grow into even bigger bundles of cuddles, ultimately arriving at their first birthday.  It’s a milestone that us parents look on with bittersweet smiles…that is, when we have a quiet moment to reflect on the past year, just before that now mobile little bundle wakes up with all the loving demands that come with hungry bellies and dirty faces!  SHEW!  No wonder mommies are so tired at the end of that first year!!  Well, take ALL that times TWO!   It’s a wild ride that only the strongest of heart are blessed to experience!!!  Enter Bethani and Andy…the strongest of heart!  And it is no exaggeration of words to say that they have indeed been blessed with beautiful girls.  I need say no more…the pictures say the rest!

Here is the shot that almost was, lol!  I had to post it just for fun…balloons can be a blessing or a curse for a photographer.  It just depends which way the wind is blowing!!!

the family farm

There is no doubt that the location for this session was serene and peaceful but what made it special was the family that gave it life!  All the way from Murfreesboro (I actually looked that word up to be sure I was spelling it correctly) they came, so that they could officially have their first family portrait in 21 years.  To say the least, I was honored!

I found that my biggest most HUGEST challenge of all throughout the entire shoot was getting the names right, lol!  Although I did FINALLY get it all ironed out in my brain, it took the better part of the entire session.  Ask me now and I can tell you every single name without a hiccup, lol!!

Thanks Cayce and family for putting up with my crazy brain and for being such good sports.  You were all wonderful to work with and I look forward to sharing the rest of the gallery with you soon!

A boy and his dog

Okay, so what boy hasn’t asked for a dog at some point in his life.  BUT, how many of those boys have patiently asked for a dog for over a year AND carefully thought out all the needs and demands that new dog would hold?  Here’s a good one…how many of those boys actually thought carefully through all this at the age of 5?!!  Devon is special, that’s for sure!  He’s careful not to hug me too hard at night because he knows that “girls can break”.  He endures at least 50 hugs and kisses from his baby sister each day because he knows it will make her happy.  He prays for his big brother while he’s at school that “he will learn to not be so mean” and he pumps out 100 push-ups in a 10 min. time frame (pushing well past his body’s limitations) at the fire hall in front of all the guys because he knows it will make his daddy proud…just to name a few specialties…  So how does a parent say “no” to a child like that!

So now you know how we came to the conclusion that our boy needed a dog for his birthday…but now for the REST of the story!

We concluded that our best option was to find a dog at the pound since the $50 fee would cover the spay/neuter, one set of shots, and de-worming if needed.  After two trips to the pound, I was getting discouraged.  You see, Devon requested specifically, a dog that “never grew up”.  To add to that, I couldn’t exactly have a tiny dog that could get squished to death either!  NOR could we afford a dog that came along with a lot of allergies and health problems…we have 4 kids to take care of, you know!  I have to admit that I was quite scared that it would be too easy to pick the wrong dog!  I believe “pray without ceasing” was well exercised throughout this process!!

Finally, on a Saturday just two weeks before Devon’s birthday, I found myself walking past the sweetest little pup.  He looked at me with the sweetest of all sad faces but darned if I didn’t want that breed.  I purposely did NOT stop to pet him for fear that I would fall in love and kindly told him that I was not in the market for Boston Terriers and continued on my way.  Sigh.  I didn’t take but two more steps before I stopped and turned around and went straight back to this little package of pitifullness (if that’s not a word, it most definitely should be).  By the time I wiggled my hand under the gate and he plopped his little head in it, my heart belonged completely to him.  I went straight to the desk to adopt him, but was surprised to learn that because he was a stray, he had to wait the required 4 days for someone to claim him before he could be adopted out.  I was going to have to wait until WEDNESDAY before I could adopt him!  After much more discussion, I found out that the first car in line at the gate when they open gets first dibs on the dogs and that the earliest anyone had ever been there was 8 am.  SERIOUSLY?!!!?!!!!  Double sigh!  So here we are.  After a LONG wait Monday and Tuesday, I called to be sure no one had claimed our little dog and then prepared for an even LONGER wait Wednesday morning to claim the perfect dog for our Devon.

I pulled up, first to arrive, bright and early at 8 am to count down the 3 hours with both Devon and Chloe.  Devon had no idea what we were doing until he saw the building…and now you know the rest of the story.  Enjoy the pictures from our eventful morning!!!

So “Bones” found his forever home and Devon found his forever friend.

Girls’ Night Out

Knowing that a writer in the making (yes, I’m talking about you, Lynette) is going to be reading this, I feel the need to give this blog an additional amount of thought, lol!  GAH, the PRESSURE!  Incredible isn’t a descriptive enough word for the time I spent with Lynette, her mother and her grandmother last Friday.  I came home from the session feeling like I hadn’t worked at all but rather had a girls night out!!  (I really do love my job for this very reason)  From the first email Lynette sent, we hit it off and I had that warm goose bump sense that this was going to be THE senior session of the year!  Wow, Lynette did NOT disappoint!  She came with half her wardrobe and an entourage of helpers in the make-up and beauty dept.!

Lynette, it was TRULY an honor to photograph you and hang out.  You are beautiful inside and out and I am SO entirely serious when I say I want to be one of the first to congratulate you when you are in print.  I will always be your number one devoted fan!!   Here’s your sneak peek as promised but OH my goodness…there are SOOOOO many incredible pics.  You are going to be blown away!

Let’s cool it down a bit!

Even though I was too sick to post for so many months, I still found the energy to grab my camera and capture a few things.  Some of those were the many snows that we had this last winter season that I’d been praying in for the last several YEARS, lol!  I got sick of hearing about the blizzard of ’93 (?) and wanted to be a part of the new story; you know, something catchy like…oh, the blizzard of ’09!!!!  Well, a blizzard never struck but we were blessed with some GORGEOUS snows, nonetheless!
